The following are some of the types of waste suitable for composting:
>> Raw, unsorted household waste or grey waste collected once packaging materials (plastic containers, cardboard, tins) have been sorted
Old sorting and composting facilities used this type of waste.
>> The fermentable fraction of household waste (or household bio-waste) collected selectively and sorted at source by the households themselves.
This is made up of food waste, paper, cardboard, green waste and garden refuse.
>> Green waste from public and private gardens and from companies which maintain green spaces.
They are made up of lawn clippings hedge trimmings, small branches, dead leaves and flowers which have been thrown away.
>> Sludge from waste water treatment plants which forms when treating urban or industrial waste water.
This sludge is generally mixed with structuring agents such as wood chips or vegetable waste so as to obtain the structure and porosity required for composting.
>> Agricultural waste
This is composed of manure and animal excrement.
